Narrative:
Just after takeoff, the control tower informed me (the instructor) and my client (PF) that a wheel had departed from the landing gear. There were no noticeable indications prior to or during the takeoff (ie, vibration or noise). I lowered the landing gear and made a fly-by of the tower. The controller stated that 1 wheel was missing from the right inboard landing gear (there are 2 wheels on each main landing gear). I declared an emergency. The control tower had the airport service vehicle sweep the runway for debris and picked up the wheel from the airport infield. A normal landing was made at the airport and taxi back to the ramp. Excellent job of the controller advising us of the wheel coming off. That was the first indication of a problem.

Title: DURING TKOF FROM FMU, MAIN LNDG GEAR TIRE FALLS OFF CPR TURBOPROP ACFT.
Narrative: JUST AFTER TKOF, THE CTL TWR INFORMED ME (THE INSTRUCTOR) AND MY CLIENT (PF) THAT A WHEEL HAD DEPARTED FROM THE LNDG GEAR. THERE WERE NO NOTICEABLE INDICATIONS PRIOR TO OR DURING THE TKOF (IE, VIBRATION OR NOISE). I LOWERED THE LNDG GEAR AND MADE A FLY-BY OF THE TWR. THE CTLR STATED THAT 1 WHEEL WAS MISSING FROM THE R INBOARD LNDG GEAR (THERE ARE 2 WHEELS ON EACH MAIN LNDG GEAR). I DECLARED AN EMER. THE CTL TWR HAD THE ARPT SVC VEHICLE SWEEP THE RWY FOR DEBRIS AND PICKED UP THE WHEEL FROM THE ARPT INFIELD. A NORMAL LNDG WAS MADE AT THE ARPT AND TAXI BACK TO THE RAMP. EXCELLENT JOB OF THE CTLR ADVISING US OF THE WHEEL COMING OFF. THAT WAS THE FIRST INDICATION OF A PROB.
