Narrative:
After a slightly long landing on runway 9R in atlanta, I was instructed to exit the runway on taxiway K and to hold short of runway 9L. I acknowledged the instructions to my two coplts and proceeded along taxiway K toward runway 9L. My taxi speed was probably too fast, second trip on new airplane. As I was approaching runway 9L the tower controller asked if we were going to hold short and simultaneously canceled the takeoff clearance for another aircraft who had been cleared for takeoff on runway 9L. I stopped the aircraft slightly past the hold short line, but well short of the runway. The other aircraft stopped and cleared the runway. Then the tower cleared us across 9L and to the gate. Because of my taxi speed, the controller obviously thought I was not going to hold short of the runway. Supplemental information from acn 552130: I read back 'aircraft X turn left on taxiway K, hold short zero niner left.' the captain verbalized 'hold short nine left.' I then began to accomplish the after landing checklist. I looked up and noticed that the captain was taxiing past the hold line. I yelled for him to stop and applied brakes simultaneously. As he applied brakes, we ended up about 5-10 ft beyond the hold position.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD11 CREW, AFTER LNDG AT ATL, TAXIED PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR THE PARALLEL CAUSING A REJECTED TKOF.
Narrative: AFTER A SLIGHTLY LONG LNDG ON RWY 9R IN ATLANTA, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO EXIT THE RWY ON TXWY K AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 9L. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO MY TWO COPLTS AND PROCEEDED ALONG TXWY K TOWARD RWY 9L. MY TAXI SPD WAS PROBABLY TOO FAST, SECOND TRIP ON NEW AIRPLANE. AS I WAS APCHING RWY 9L THE TWR CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO HOLD SHORT AND SIMULTANEOUSLY CANCELED THE TKOF CLRNC FOR ANOTHER ACFT WHO HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 9L. I STOPPED THE ACFT SLIGHTLY PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE, BUT WELL SHORT OF THE RWY. THE OTHER ACFT STOPPED AND CLRED THE RWY. THEN THE TWR CLRED US ACROSS 9L AND TO THE GATE. BECAUSE OF MY TAXI SPD, THE CTLR OBVIOUSLY THOUGHT I WAS NOT GOING TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 552130: I READ BACK 'ACFT X TURN L ON TXWY K, HOLD SHORT ZERO NINER L.' THE CAPT VERBALIZED 'HOLD SHORT NINE L.' I THEN BEGAN TO ACCOMPLISH THE AFTER LNDG CHKLIST. I LOOKED UP AND NOTICED THAT THE CAPT WAS TAXIING PAST THE HOLD LINE. I YELLED FOR HIM TO STOP AND APPLIED BRAKES SIMULTANEOUSLY. AS HE APPLIED BRAKES, WE ENDED UP ABOUT 5-10 FT BEYOND THE HOLD POS.
