Narrative:

On climb out at approximately 5000 ft, told by ATC to turn right to first fix. In the turn, felt a light 'bang' and heard a 'banging' sound. We believed a cargo can was not secure. No other event occurred during the flight. Upon arrival at ramp, we were informed by maintenance that a piece of sheet metal from the lower forward cargo door was missing. Size was approximately 18 inches by 48 inches. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the forward cargo door outer skin latch cover panel was discovered missing on arrival, and it appears the fasteners had backed out. The reporter said the panel measuring 18 inches by 48 inches covered the cargo door lower latches, and was not part of the door structure, and no pressurization problems were encountered.
