Narrative:
Called for taxi clearance from cargo ramp to runway 36R. Accepted clearance to taxi to runway 36R, but missed hearing controller instruction to hold short at crossing taxiway instead of holding short at end of runway 36R. No ground or runway conflict occurred. Controller working ground, clearance, tower and approach, all at the same time -- which may have brought on the confusion. Pilots and controller were entirely unaware of missed instructions until after we crossed runway 36R and another taxiing aircraft (to which we were yielding) requested our intentions. Supplemental information from acn 573514: I had understood the clearance to taxi to runway 36R and did not hear any hold short instructions. On approaching runway 36R at taxiway C3, I asked the first officer if we were cleared to cross the runway. He advised me that we were and proceeded across the runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CARGO SH360 CREW AT HSV MISUNDERSTOOD TAXI INSTRUCTION AND CROSSED RWY AFTER BEING TOLD TO HOLD SHORT.
Narrative: CALLED FOR TAXI CLRNC FROM CARGO RAMP TO RWY 36R. ACCEPTED CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 36R, BUT MISSED HEARING CTLR INSTRUCTION TO HOLD SHORT AT XING TXWY INSTEAD OF HOLDING SHORT AT END OF RWY 36R. NO GND OR RWY CONFLICT OCCURRED. CTLR WORKING GND, CLRNC, TWR AND APCH, ALL AT THE SAME TIME -- WHICH MAY HAVE BROUGHT ON THE CONFUSION. PLTS AND CTLR WERE ENTIRELY UNAWARE OF MISSED INSTRUCTIONS UNTIL AFTER WE CROSSED RWY 36R AND ANOTHER TAXIING ACFT (TO WHICH WE WERE YIELDING) REQUESTED OUR INTENTIONS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 573514: I HAD UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 36R AND DID NOT HEAR ANY HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. ON APCHING RWY 36R AT TXWY C3, I ASKED THE FO IF WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY. HE ADVISED ME THAT WE WERE AND PROCEEDED ACROSS THE RWY.
