Narrative:
At the first level off at 3000 ft, throttles were reduced to slow the acceleration. The left engine N1 did not produce and accelerated to produce full power. The inlet turbine temperature increased through red line to 800 degrees with the throttle in the flight idle position. Aircraft continued to accelerate to red line airspeed with both throttles in the flight idle position. At approximately 275 KIAS and accelerating, left engine was shut down by positioning the left throttle into the cut-off position. At that time, the engine was secured per the checklist, an emergency was declared, and the flight was diverted to chs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C560 CREW WAS NOT ABLE TO REDUCE #1 ENG PWR FROM TKOF THRUST. THE ENG HAD TO BE SHUT DOWN TO RETAIN ACFT CTL AND AVOID ENG OVER TEMP.
Narrative: AT THE FIRST LEVEL OFF AT 3000 FT, THROTTLES WERE REDUCED TO SLOW THE ACCELERATION. THE L ENG N1 DID NOT PRODUCE AND ACCELERATED TO PRODUCE FULL PWR. THE INLET TURBINE TEMP INCREASED THROUGH RED LINE TO 800 DEGS WITH THE THROTTLE IN THE FLT IDLE POS. ACFT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO RED LINE AIRSPD WITH BOTH THROTTLES IN THE FLT IDLE POS. AT APPROX 275 KIAS AND ACCELERATING, L ENG WAS SHUT DOWN BY POSITIONING THE L THROTTLE INTO THE CUT-OFF POS. AT THAT TIME, THE ENG WAS SECURED PER THE CHKLIST, AN EMER WAS DECLARED, AND THE FLT WAS DIVERTED TO CHS.
