Narrative:
At approximately xa:00 local time, I departed my home base ct (bdr) for a short local wbound flight at approximately 1300 ft. Flew direct to norwalk/darien ct area and after a few mins returned to bdr. Upon turning left base for runway 29 tower asked for full call sign. After exiting the active, contacted ground for taxi instructions and was asked by ground to copy a telephone number for N90 TRACON, controller said it had to do with a violation. Immediately after shutdown, I called N90 TRACON on my cell phone. The person answering at TRACON said that I had penetrated the outer edge of the newly extended controled airspace around nyc. Although I had familiarized myself with the ADIZ NOTAM prior to the flight, the limits of the ADIZ were unclr. I had erroneously believed that my navigation equipment would reveal its boundaries. After a short discussion, the person said that he would not issue a violation this time, but my aircraft registration number is now on file with N90 TRACON and if this were to happen again, it 'would be out of his hands and a violation would be issued.'

Title: C172 ENTERED NY ADIZ WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION.
Narrative: AT APPROX XA:00 LOCAL TIME, I DEPARTED MY HOME BASE CT (BDR) FOR A SHORT LOCAL WBOUND FLT AT APPROX 1300 FT. FLEW DIRECT TO NORWALK/DARIEN CT AREA AND AFTER A FEW MINS RETURNED TO BDR. UPON TURNING LEFT BASE FOR RWY 29 TWR ASKED FOR FULL CALL SIGN. AFTER EXITING THE ACTIVE, CONTACTED GND FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND WAS ASKED BY GND TO COPY A TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR N90 TRACON, CTLR SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH A VIOLATION. IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHUTDOWN, I CALLED N90 TRACON ON MY CELL PHONE. THE PERSON ANSWERING AT TRACON SAID THAT I HAD PENETRATED THE OUTER EDGE OF THE NEWLY EXTENDED CTLED AIRSPACE AROUND NYC. ALTHOUGH I HAD FAMILIARIZED MYSELF WITH THE ADIZ NOTAM PRIOR TO THE FLT, THE LIMITS OF THE ADIZ WERE UNCLR. I HAD ERRONEOUSLY BELIEVED THAT MY NAVIGATION EQUIP WOULD REVEAL ITS BOUNDARIES. AFTER A SHORT DISCUSSION, THE PERSON SAID THAT HE WOULD NOT ISSUE A VIOLATION THIS TIME, BUT MY ACFT REGISTRATION NUMBER IS NOW ON FILE WITH N90 TRACON AND IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AGAIN, IT 'WOULD BE OUT OF HIS HANDS AND A VIOLATION WOULD BE ISSUED.'
