Narrative:
We were cleared to taxi to runway 22 at lga via taxiway Z, runway 31, and taxiway right. Neither the first officer or myself had ever taken off on runway 22. As we approached taxiway right, I was mentally calculating our takeoff weight versus runway allowable takeoff weight and I passed the turnoff to taxiway right. As I realized my error, I began to brake the aircraft at the same time ground control instructed us to hold our position short of the runway. (The first officer was making his required pre-departure PA at the time of my error and realized I had passed taxiway right at the same time I did). We held our position short of runway 22 for a few seconds and then we were instructed by ground controller to expedite across runway 22 because there was an aircraft on a two mi final.(that aircraft landed without incident.) we were then given tax instructions back to runway 22 for our takeoff.

Title: NEAR RWY INCURSION OF RWY 22 BY A TAXIING B757 IS CORRECTED BY AN ALERT GND CTLR AT LGA, NY.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 22 AT LGA VIA TXWY Z, RWY 31, AND TXWY R. NEITHER THE FO OR MYSELF HAD EVER TAKEN OFF ON RWY 22. AS WE APCHED TXWY R, I WAS MENTALLY CALCULATING OUR TKOF WEIGHT VERSUS RWY ALLOWABLE TKOF WEIGHT AND I PASSED THE TURNOFF TO TXWY R. AS I REALIZED MY ERROR, I BEGAN TO BRAKE THE ACFT AT THE SAME TIME GND CTL INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD OUR POS SHORT OF THE RWY. (THE FO WAS MAKING HIS REQUIRED PRE-DEP PA AT THE TIME OF MY ERROR AND REALIZED I HAD PASSED TXWY R AT THE SAME TIME I DID). WE HELD OUR POS SHORT OF RWY 22 FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY GND CTLR TO EXPEDITE ACROSS RWY 22 BECAUSE THERE WAS AN ACFT ON A TWO MI FINAL.(THAT ACFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.) WE WERE THEN GIVEN TAX INSTRUCTIONS BACK TO RWY 22 FOR OUR TKOF.
