Narrative:

On aircraft X I was assigned to do a nose landing gear swing after a night shift changed the shock absorber. My partner and I signed off the item and were not aware that it was an rii (required inspection item). The gpm (general procedure manual) states 'an rii is required when installation/rig of any component or actuator that affects extension, retraction, or locking.' we did not consider the shock absorber as affecting extension, retraction, or locking.
