Narrative:
Passing carter, on the brighman city two arrival, once cleared the visual runway 17, we were also assigned 7800 ft or above pryes (12.3 DME). Near pryes we got a TCASII TA call and then an RA 'climb, climb' we complied on coming back down to the GS I think we passed pyres 300 ft low. The first officer does not think so. The TCASII RA was very distracting and was caused by rapidly climbing fighters or fighter off ogden AFB. If slc is going to start using runway 17 regularly for airliners, then the military fighters should not climb so rapidly. We got the TCASII RA from a fighter 3600 ft below us. He must have been climbing very quickly. They don't' have TCASII, so they don't know how they can affect airliners passing overhead.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD90 CREW AND MIL FIGHTERS, IN A NEAR VERT CLB, HAD A TCASII RA IN SLC CLASS B.
Narrative: PASSING CARTER, ON THE BRIGHMAN CITY TWO ARR, ONCE CLRED THE VISUAL RWY 17, WE WERE ALSO ASSIGNED 7800 FT OR ABOVE PRYES (12.3 DME). NEAR PRYES WE GOT A TCASII TA CALL AND THEN AN RA 'CLB, CLB' WE COMPLIED ON COMING BACK DOWN TO THE GS I THINK WE PASSED PYRES 300 FT LOW. THE FO DOES NOT THINK SO. THE TCASII RA WAS VERY DISTRACTING AND WAS CAUSED BY RAPIDLY CLBING FIGHTERS OR FIGHTER OFF OGDEN AFB. IF SLC IS GOING TO START USING RWY 17 REGULARLY FOR AIRLINERS, THEN THE MIL FIGHTERS SHOULD NOT CLB SO RAPIDLY. WE GOT THE TCASII RA FROM A FIGHTER 3600 FT BELOW US. HE MUST HAVE BEEN CLBING VERY QUICKLY. THEY DON'T' HAVE TCASII, SO THEY DON'T KNOW HOW THEY CAN AFFECT AIRLINERS PASSING OVERHEAD.
