Narrative:

I was the captain on flight XXX (radio call XXXX) on aug/fri/03 from den to ewr. We were on approach to runway 22L at ewr. The tower advised us that helicopter traffic would be passing from right to left across the final approach course and, I believe that they said it would pass behind us. We responded that we were looking. We never saw the helicopter, but did have it on TCASII. As we passed through approximately 1000 ft we received a TA, followed shortly by an RA which we responded to and executed a go around. The helicopter appeared to still be in front of us and not behind as we had been advised. My recollection is that the helicopter was at 700 ft. I do not know if he had us in sight. These operations are routine at ewr, but the helicopters on the '280' route always pass behind and below us when we are on approach to runway 22L. In any case, we executed the missed approach according to the tower's instructions and were vectored around for another approach and landed without incident. I spoke to the tower supervisor and advised him I would be filing this report.

Title: LNDG EWR, A B757 CREW IS ADVISED THAT A HELI WILL CROSS THE FINAL FROM R TO L. A TCASII RA IS RECEIVED AND THE CREW MAKES A GAR.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT ON FLT XXX (RADIO CALL XXXX) ON AUG/FRI/03 FROM DEN TO EWR. WE WERE ON APCH TO RWY 22L AT EWR. THE TWR ADVISED US THAT HELI TFC WOULD BE PASSING FROM R TO L ACROSS THE FINAL APCH COURSE AND, I BELIEVE THAT THEY SAID IT WOULD PASS BEHIND US. WE RESPONDED THAT WE WERE LOOKING. WE NEVER SAW THE HELI, BUT DID HAVE IT ON TCASII. AS WE PASSED THROUGH APPROX 1000 FT WE RECEIVED A TA, FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY AN RA WHICH WE RESPONDED TO AND EXECUTED A GAR. THE HELI APPEARED TO STILL BE IN FRONT OF US AND NOT BEHIND AS WE HAD BEEN ADVISED. MY RECOLLECTION IS THAT THE HELI WAS AT 700 FT. I DO NOT KNOW IF HE HAD US IN SIGHT. THESE OPS ARE ROUTINE AT EWR, BUT THE HELIS ON THE '280' RTE ALWAYS PASS BEHIND AND BELOW US WHEN WE ARE ON APCH TO RWY 22L. IN ANY CASE, WE EXECUTED THE MISSED APCH ACCORDING TO THE TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS AND WERE VECTORED AROUND FOR ANOTHER APCH AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I SPOKE TO THE TWR SUPVR AND ADVISED HIM I WOULD BE FILING THIS RPT.
