Narrative:

On oct/sat/03, at approximately XA00 I was planning on a VFR night departure from (auo) airport. I checked the WX on the computer and other information for the flight. I then went to the airplane and conducted a preflight. After this the passenger and I boarded the airplane and planned for departure. I planned on VFR departure and to possibly get flight following once airborne. Before taxi I checked the information on AWOS and monitored the CTAF frequency. Auo is an uncontrolled airport and was uncontrolled arriving there at approximately XA00 that same day. I taxied to runways 10 and 18. After run-up I announced my initial intentions to depart on runway 10. After moving on runway 10 I noticed other aircraft parked on runway 10 towards the end. I immediately terminated takeoff and back taxied to runway 18. There were no other aircraft in the vicinity in motion and announced on CTAF and advised of the situation. After no answer and no contact on CTAF I prepared for departure on runway 18. Runway 10, however, was lit with runway lights and no closure X's were posted. I then announced intention on runway 18 and departed. At no time on runway 10 was this aircraft close to, or endangering persons or property. After departure on runway 18 I was contacted by someone on CTAF to contact a tower frequency. I did contact this frequency and advised of my departure. The person on this frequency stated that I attempted to depart on a closed runway and departed without clearance. They also stated give them a call later. No number was given or contact information on this situation.

Title: SMT ACFT PLT PROCEEDS TO TAKE OFF ON A RPTED CLOSED RWY AT AUO.

Narrative: ON OCT/SAT/03, AT APPROX XA00 I WAS PLANNING ON A VFR NIGHT DEP FROM (AUO) ARPT. I CHKED THE WX ON THE COMPUTER AND OTHER INFO FOR THE FLT. I THEN WENT TO THE AIRPLANE AND CONDUCTED A PREFLT. AFTER THIS THE PAX AND I BOARDED THE AIRPLANE AND PLANNED FOR DEP. I PLANNED ON VFR DEP AND TO POSSIBLY GET FLT FOLLOWING ONCE AIRBORNE. BEFORE TAXI I CHKED THE INFO ON AWOS AND MONITORED THE CTAF FREQ. AUO IS AN UNCTLED ARPT AND WAS UNCTLED ARRIVING THERE AT APPROX XA00 THAT SAME DAY. I TAXIED TO RWYS 10 AND 18. AFTER RUN-UP I ANNOUNCED MY INITIAL INTENTIONS TO DEPART ON RWY 10. AFTER MOVING ON RWY 10 I NOTICED OTHER ACFT PARKED ON RWY 10 TOWARDS THE END. I IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED TKOF AND BACK TAXIED TO RWY 18. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT IN THE VICINITY IN MOTION AND ANNOUNCED ON CTAF AND ADVISED OF THE SIT. AFTER NO ANSWER AND NO CONTACT ON CTAF I PREPARED FOR DEP ON RWY 18. RWY 10, HOWEVER, WAS LIT WITH RWY LIGHTS AND NO CLOSURE X'S WERE POSTED. I THEN ANNOUNCED INTENTION ON RWY 18 AND DEPARTED. AT NO TIME ON RWY 10 WAS THIS ACFT CLOSE TO, OR ENDANGERING PERSONS OR PROPERTY. AFTER DEP ON RWY 18 I WAS CONTACTED BY SOMEONE ON CTAF TO CONTACT A TWR FREQ. I DID CONTACT THIS FREQ AND ADVISED OF MY DEP. THE PERSON ON THIS FREQ STATED THAT I ATTEMPTED TO DEPART ON A CLOSED RWY AND DEPARTED WITHOUT CLRNC. THEY ALSO STATED GIVE THEM A CALL LATER. NO NUMBER WAS GIVEN OR CONTACT INFO ON THIS SIT.
