Narrative:

After a long and uneventful flight from sav to dfw, we were told to hold short of a central runway after landing and monitor its controling frequency. This had us in line to cross behind a company aircraft. After one arrival taxied off, both the first officer and I believed that the tower cleared us across. Approximately 10 ft over the hold short line, the spacing on landing traffic and space behind company didn't look right, so I stopped the aircraft (prior to the runway). About that time, the tower controller called out our number on the radio, paused, and sent landing aircraft around, then cleared us across. I read back crossing clearance and asked if we had been cleared. Tower told us, 'no but don't worry about it.' fact is, neither the first officer nor I are sure. Moral is: not to let an uneventful flight on a clear day lull you into a potentially dangerous mistake once on the ground.

Title: A CRJ CAPT ADMITTED THAT HE AND HIS FO MISHEARD DFW GND AND CROSSED A RWY HOLD LINE WITHOUT PERMISSION WITH AN ACFT ON FINAL.

Narrative: AFTER A LONG AND UNEVENTFUL FLT FROM SAV TO DFW, WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF A CENTRAL RWY AFTER LNDG AND MONITOR ITS CTLING FREQ. THIS HAD US IN LINE TO CROSS BEHIND A COMPANY ACFT. AFTER ONE ARR TAXIED OFF, BOTH THE FO AND I BELIEVED THAT THE TWR CLRED US ACROSS. APPROX 10 FT OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE, THE SPACING ON LNDG TFC AND SPACE BEHIND COMPANY DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT, SO I STOPPED THE ACFT (PRIOR TO THE RWY). ABOUT THAT TIME, THE TWR CTLR CALLED OUT OUR NUMBER ON THE RADIO, PAUSED, AND SENT LNDG ACFT AROUND, THEN CLRED US ACROSS. I READ BACK XING CLRNC AND ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN CLRED. TWR TOLD US, 'NO BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.' FACT IS, NEITHER THE FO NOR I ARE SURE. MORAL IS: NOT TO LET AN UNEVENTFUL FLT ON A CLR DAY LULL YOU INTO A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MISTAKE ONCE ON THE GND.
