Narrative:

I was flying to the practice area with my student on an eastbound track. My student was under the foggles, and I was looking away from the approaching traffic. My student then gasped because he saw the shadow of the citabria that was flying northbound at 9000 ft (the same altitude as we were). We came very close. If I would have turned my head sooner toward the aircraft, I would have seen the color of the other pilot's shirt. We were not with springs approach at the time. We were outside of class C.
