Narrative:
After clearing runway 9R in atl, we were instructed to hold short of the inbound runway 9L. After we stopped short of runway 9L, we were subsequently cleared to cross. The first officer acknowledged the clearance and as we started to roll, the tower called back, but the instruction was blocked by the flight attendant call bell. I stopped the aircraft while the first officer queried the controller. He came back with 'stop.' then the controller said 'you did the right thing.' he then cleared an aircraft to take off on runway 9L. We were across the hold short line at the time, but short of the runway. At the gate, I called the tower supervisor to get the whole story. He said the controller had changed his mind after clearing us to cross. The supervisor said there were no problems and we had acted on the clrncs correctly. I also talked with the flight attendants about the use of the call bell while we were on active txwys and/or runways.

Title: ATL ATCT LCL CTLR CLRS MD80 TO CROSS RWY 9L, CANCELS CLRNC AFTER ACFT CROSSED HOLD SHORT LINE AND SUBSEQUENTLY CLRS AN ACFT FOR TKOF ON RWY 9L.
Narrative: AFTER CLRING RWY 9R IN ATL, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE INBOUND RWY 9L. AFTER WE STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 9L, WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED TO CROSS. THE FO ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC AND AS WE STARTED TO ROLL, THE TWR CALLED BACK, BUT THE INSTRUCTION WAS BLOCKED BY THE FLT ATTENDANT CALL BELL. I STOPPED THE ACFT WHILE THE FO QUERIED THE CTLR. HE CAME BACK WITH 'STOP.' THEN THE CTLR SAID 'YOU DID THE RIGHT THING.' HE THEN CLRED AN ACFT TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 9L. WE WERE ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE AT THE TIME, BUT SHORT OF THE RWY. AT THE GATE, I CALLED THE TWR SUPVR TO GET THE WHOLE STORY. HE SAID THE CTLR HAD CHANGED HIS MIND AFTER CLRING US TO CROSS. THE SUPVR SAID THERE WERE NO PROBS AND WE HAD ACTED ON THE CLRNCS CORRECTLY. I ALSO TALKED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS ABOUT THE USE OF THE CALL BELL WHILE WE WERE ON ACTIVE TXWYS AND/OR RWYS.
