Narrative:
Taxi conflict at dfw after landing. Landed at dfw on runway 17L. Taxied er across runways 17C and 17R. Ground control's instructions were to taxi taxiway K, to el, enter ramp on spot xa. As we taxied to spot xa, another air carrier DC9 was on the north line coming out of the ramp area. To avoid what we thought was a nose to nose situation, we entered at spot xb for the south line. As we turned to spot xb, dfw ground controller told us to stop. He said we were cleared in at spot xa not xb. We asked about the DC9 coming out on the north line. The controller said he had his own taxi instructions. At this point we were then cleared to taxi in at spot xb and the DC9 on spot xa. I turned on spot xb to avoid a possible nose to nose situation. We did not hear the taxi instructions to the DC9 since they were on a different frequency. I tried with my first officer to submit a report at san for this incident, prior to our flight on mar/sun/04. The new reporting system did not work. Supplemental information from acn 609985: we went to spot xb to alleviate the conflict. Ground told us to stop the aircraft. We were told he wanted us in spot xa and was going to have the aircraft exit xb, basically have us cross paths in a crowded ramp area. Not smart. We were then cleared in and the other aircraft cleared out with no further conflict. Next time I will ask.

Title: A POTENTIAL GND CONFLICT DURING A TAXI IN, TAXI OUT BTWN AN MD80 AND A DC9 NEAR THE TERMINAL AT DFW, TX.
Narrative: TAXI CONFLICT AT DFW AFTER LNDG. LANDED AT DFW ON RWY 17L. TAXIED ER ACROSS RWYS 17C AND 17R. GND CTL'S INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO TAXI TXWY K, TO EL, ENTER RAMP ON SPOT XA. AS WE TAXIED TO SPOT XA, ANOTHER ACR DC9 WAS ON THE N LINE COMING OUT OF THE RAMP AREA. TO AVOID WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A NOSE TO NOSE SIT, WE ENTERED AT SPOT XB FOR THE S LINE. AS WE TURNED TO SPOT XB, DFW GND CTLR TOLD US TO STOP. HE SAID WE WERE CLRED IN AT SPOT XA NOT XB. WE ASKED ABOUT THE DC9 COMING OUT ON THE N LINE. THE CTLR SAID HE HAD HIS OWN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. AT THIS POINT WE WERE THEN CLRED TO TAXI IN AT SPOT XB AND THE DC9 ON SPOT XA. I TURNED ON SPOT XB TO AVOID A POSSIBLE NOSE TO NOSE SIT. WE DID NOT HEAR THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO THE DC9 SINCE THEY WERE ON A DIFFERENT FREQ. I TRIED WITH MY FO TO SUBMIT A RPT AT SAN FOR THIS INCIDENT, PRIOR TO OUR FLT ON MAR/SUN/04. THE NEW RPTING SYS DID NOT WORK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 609985: WE WENT TO SPOT XB TO ALLEVIATE THE CONFLICT. GND TOLD US TO STOP THE ACFT. WE WERE TOLD HE WANTED US IN SPOT XA AND WAS GOING TO HAVE THE ACFT EXIT XB, BASICALLY HAVE US CROSS PATHS IN A CROWDED RAMP AREA. NOT SMART. WE WERE THEN CLRED IN AND THE OTHER ACFT CLRED OUT WITH NO FURTHER CONFLICT. NEXT TIME I WILL ASK.
