Narrative:
DC9 departed detroit climbing sbound. I climbed him to FL330 and turned 15 degree right. MD80 nwbound at FL310. Turned MD80 20 degrees right to stay behind DC9. Gave additional turns to each aircraft. DC9 slowed to increase climb rate. I descended MD80 to FL290. MD80 sped up (winds out of south). To prevent the situation, bigger turns earlier to both aircraft.
