Narrative:
Aircraft #1 was being vectored to ILS runway 18R. Aircraft #2 was being vectored for ILS runway 17C. Aircraft #1 was expediting to 3000 ft, aircraft #2 was at 4000 ft. Aircraft #1 did not get to 3000 ft before losing separation with aircraft #2. Both aircraft were being vectored to ILS approachs due to new procedures at D10 approach control. Controllers are unable to issue a visual approach clearance to aircraft landing runways 17C and 18R at dfw. While working this session, aircraft had been reporting the airport in sight 15+ mi out. If aircraft #1 had been issued a visual approach that far out, this error would not have occurred. (This procedure is difficult to explain on paper.) event occurred at XA46 local, at which time I advised the supervisor. I was relieved from the position.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: D10 CTLR EXPERIENCED OPERROR DURING VECTORS FOR PARALLEL APCH PROCS WHEN ACFT DID NOT DSND AS EXPECTED.
Narrative: ACFT #1 WAS BEING VECTORED TO ILS RWY 18R. ACFT #2 WAS BEING VECTORED FOR ILS RWY 17C. ACFT #1 WAS EXPEDITING TO 3000 FT, ACFT #2 WAS AT 4000 FT. ACFT #1 DID NOT GET TO 3000 FT BEFORE LOSING SEPARATION WITH ACFT #2. BOTH ACFT WERE BEING VECTORED TO ILS APCHS DUE TO NEW PROCS AT D10 APCH CTL. CTLRS ARE UNABLE TO ISSUE A VISUAL APCH CLRNC TO ACFT LNDG RWYS 17C AND 18R AT DFW. WHILE WORKING THIS SESSION, ACFT HAD BEEN RPTING THE ARPT IN SIGHT 15+ MI OUT. IF ACFT #1 HAD BEEN ISSUED A VISUAL APCH THAT FAR OUT, THIS ERROR WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. (THIS PROC IS DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN ON PAPER.) EVENT OCCURRED AT XA46 LCL, AT WHICH TIME I ADVISED THE SUPVR. I WAS RELIEVED FROM THE POS.
