Narrative:

I was flying as a contract pilot with a PIC that had very little operational experience, but who had just completed recurrent training. He had not flown an actual aircraft in almost 10 yrs. We were given the lindz 4 departure and we briefed it thoroughly and I had all his navaids set for him. When I contacted departure, they informed us that they were not receiving our transponder and I switched to another. While dealing with them, the captain (who was not totally familiar with the FMS) and seemed to be having a problem understanding the 'back course' intercept on the SID, changed his settings and began turning the wrong way. I informed him of this and told him to turn back the other way, but he began arguing with me. We were in the clear, so I knew we were not going to have a terrain problem, however, he insisted on going in the wrong direction. Just then, departure came on and told us to turn in the direction I had advised him to follow we turned and proceeded on course without incident. While the PIC had completed an approved recurrent at a training facility, I felt his lack of experience in a high performance jet, coupled with his inability to use the FMS and lack of situational awareness, made him extremely uncomfortable in his position. He later admitted that he really shouldn't be flying as the PIC, but needed the money. This individual had no business flying as a captain and the people that hired him should have asked more questions, rather than just relying on his recent PIC check. Supplemental information from acn 620022: I got lost on the departure procedure from aspen, co. The procedure calls for a turn to 270 degrees to intercept the lda outbound course and I think I misconfigured the course. Callback conversation with reporter acn 619830 revealed the following information: the reporter advised both she and the captain were literally hired over the phone to act as crew of this vintage FA50. Reporter stated that she was shocked to later discover the truth regarding the PIC's experience and after 2 legs refused to fly further with him. Reporter indicated her intent to contact the FAA hotline regarding the employment practices of this company.

Title: FA50 FAILS TO FOLLOW ASSIGNED SID ROUTING FROM ASE DUE TO INEXPERIENCED FLT CREW.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING AS A CONTRACT PLT WITH A PIC THAT HAD VERY LITTLE OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE, BUT WHO HAD JUST COMPLETED RECURRENT TRAINING. HE HAD NOT FLOWN AN ACTUAL ACFT IN ALMOST 10 YRS. WE WERE GIVEN THE LINDZ 4 DEP AND WE BRIEFED IT THOROUGHLY AND I HAD ALL HIS NAVAIDS SET FOR HIM. WHEN I CONTACTED DEP, THEY INFORMED US THAT THEY WERE NOT RECEIVING OUR XPONDER AND I SWITCHED TO ANOTHER. WHILE DEALING WITH THEM, THE CAPT (WHO WAS NOT TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE FMS) AND SEEMED TO BE HAVING A PROB UNDERSTANDING THE 'BACK COURSE' INTERCEPT ON THE SID, CHANGED HIS SETTINGS AND BEGAN TURNING THE WRONG WAY. I INFORMED HIM OF THIS AND TOLD HIM TO TURN BACK THE OTHER WAY, BUT HE BEGAN ARGUING WITH ME. WE WERE IN THE CLR, SO I KNEW WE WERE NOT GOING TO HAVE A TERRAIN PROB, HOWEVER, HE INSISTED ON GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. JUST THEN, DEP CAME ON AND TOLD US TO TURN IN THE DIRECTION I HAD ADVISED HIM TO FOLLOW WE TURNED AND PROCEEDED ON COURSE WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHILE THE PIC HAD COMPLETED AN APPROVED RECURRENT AT A TRAINING FACILITY, I FELT HIS LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN A HIGH PERFORMANCE JET, COUPLED WITH HIS INABILITY TO USE THE FMS AND LACK OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, MADE HIM EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE IN HIS POS. HE LATER ADMITTED THAT HE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE FLYING AS THE PIC, BUT NEEDED THE MONEY. THIS INDIVIDUAL HAD NO BUSINESS FLYING AS A CAPT AND THE PEOPLE THAT HIRED HIM SHOULD HAVE ASKED MORE QUESTIONS, RATHER THAN JUST RELYING ON HIS RECENT PIC CHK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 620022: I GOT LOST ON THE DEP PROC FROM ASPEN, CO. THE PROC CALLS FOR A TURN TO 270 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE LDA OUTBOUND COURSE AND I THINK I MISCONFIGURED THE COURSE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 619830 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR ADVISED BOTH SHE AND THE CAPT WERE LITERALLY HIRED OVER THE PHONE TO ACT AS CREW OF THIS VINTAGE FA50. RPTR STATED THAT SHE WAS SHOCKED TO LATER DISCOVER THE TRUTH REGARDING THE PIC'S EXPERIENCE AND AFTER 2 LEGS REFUSED TO FLY FURTHER WITH HIM. RPTR INDICATED HER INTENT TO CONTACT THE FAA HOTLINE REGARDING THE EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES OF THIS COMPANY.
