Narrative:
On the evening of jul/wed/04, a friend from TRACON called to brief us on a government official coming to town on jul/thu/04 and that he was going to glenview and winnetka, il, and it should not affect our operation unless we fly north. (This set me up for the next morning.) on the morning of jul/thu/04, we called FSS and they faxed a copy of the NOTAM regarding the government official. During our preshift briefing, I warned our dispatcher and aeromedical flight crew that a government official was coming into town 'but it will not affect our operations unless we have a flight up north.' I then scanned the NOTAM and highlighted the start time and finish time and the phone number for dispatch to call to coordinate with TRACON and secret service if we went north. At XA49 hours, police dispatcher phoned in a request for our team to fly to a multiple vehicle accident. I quickly checked the office computer live radar to check recent local storm location and movement, and we launched. Gyy control tower advised me of my deviation when I called them to get clearance to enter their class D airspace to land at the accident scene. Re-reading the NOTAM when I returned to base, I saw that the ADIZ was a 25 NM radius circle around ord airport from the surface up. We needed to be on a flight plan to fly anywhere under the ord class B veil.
