Narrative:

Bwi ground cleared me to taxi and follow a DC10 to runway 15R. The DC10 was around a curve in the taxiway and I was not sure which taxiway the DC10 was using. I was not given specific instructions on which taxiway to use; so I started taxiing on taxiway a and ground then advised me that I was not authority/authorized to taxi on taxiway a and asked me to hold position. I then asked to taxi on taxiway a to taxiway F and then to taxiway P which ground said to taxi at my own discretion to taxiway F and taxiway P. Even though the airport diagram does have a note that aircraft B767 and larger were not authority/authorized to taxi on taxiway a at my position; I think the problem I encountered could have been avoided if ground control had given me specific taxi instructions instead of simply saying 'follow the DC10 to runway 15R.'

Title: B767 AT BWI TAXIING FOR DEP ON RWY 15R IS ISSUED A FOLLOW ACFT CLRNC WHICH RESULTED IN THE CREW TAXIING ON AN UNAUTH TXWY.

Narrative: BWI GND CLRED ME TO TAXI AND FOLLOW A DC10 TO RWY 15R. THE DC10 WAS AROUND A CURVE IN THE TXWY AND I WAS NOT SURE WHICH TXWY THE DC10 WAS USING. I WAS NOT GIVEN SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS ON WHICH TXWY TO USE; SO I STARTED TAXIING ON TXWY A AND GND THEN ADVISED ME THAT I WAS NOT AUTH TO TAXI ON TXWY A AND ASKED ME TO HOLD POS. I THEN ASKED TO TAXI ON TXWY A TO TXWY F AND THEN TO TXWY P WHICH GND SAID TO TAXI AT MY OWN DISCRETION TO TXWY F AND TXWY P. EVEN THOUGH THE ARPT DIAGRAM DOES HAVE A NOTE THAT ACFT B767 AND LARGER WERE NOT AUTH TO TAXI ON TXWY A AT MY POS; I THINK THE PROB I ENCOUNTERED COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF GND CTL HAD GIVEN ME SPECIFIC TAXI INSTRUCTIONS INSTEAD OF SIMPLY SAYING 'FOLLOW THE DC10 TO RWY 15R.'
