Narrative:

We were taking off from teb with no passenger. The flying captain and I had briefed the teb 5 departure and had tuned our navigation radios to receive the 4.5 DME before climbing to 2000 ft. We took off on runway 24 climbed to 1500 ft and then turned to 280 degrees; before waiting for 4.5 DME the captain began an immediate climb to 2000 ft. Before we got above 1800 ft the controller called us and asked to confirm our altitude; by then we were already level at 2000 ft and I reported level at 2000 ft. We recognized our error immediately and had flown this departure many times without incident.
