Narrative:
The flight had been cleared for a visual approach to runway 25L at las. At XA45; just north of the prino intersection at 8000 ft MSL; the aircraft was illuminated 3 times by a steady green low intensity laser. The laser appeared to rotate in a vertical plane in an attempt to pass through the aircraft's flight path. The laser originated from a point in unlighted terrain just to the northeast of the edge of the last subdivision/street lights of northeast henderson (north of highway 146). Approach control was notified of the event; and a normal approach and landing was accomplished. Ground control requested additional information and a warning was put on a new ATIS broadcast. After parking at the gate; I called the ground controller to ensure they had all the information they required. I also called the safety manager and provided him with the details of the incident and the following morning left a recorded message on the safety report hotline.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 APCHING LAS RWY 25L RECEIVED A GREEN LASER BEAM AT 8000 FT APPROX D21 FROM ARPT NEAR PRINO INTXN.
Narrative: THE FLT HAD BEEN CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 25L AT LAS. AT XA45; JUST N OF THE PRINO INTXN AT 8000 FT MSL; THE ACFT WAS ILLUMINATED 3 TIMES BY A STEADY GREEN LOW INTENSITY LASER. THE LASER APPEARED TO ROTATE IN A VERT PLANE IN AN ATTEMPT TO PASS THROUGH THE ACFT'S FLT PATH. THE LASER ORIGINATED FROM A POINT IN UNLIGHTED TERRAIN JUST TO THE NE OF THE EDGE OF THE LAST SUBDIVISION/STREET LIGHTS OF NE HENDERSON (N OF HWY 146). APCH CTL WAS NOTIFIED OF THE EVENT; AND A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED. GND CTL REQUESTED ADDITIONAL INFO AND A WARNING WAS PUT ON A NEW ATIS BROADCAST. AFTER PARKING AT THE GATE; I CALLED THE GND CTLR TO ENSURE THEY HAD ALL THE INFO THEY REQUIRED. I ALSO CALLED THE SAFETY MGR AND PROVIDED HIM WITH THE DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT AND THE FOLLOWING MORNING LEFT A RECORDED MSG ON THE SAFETY RPT HOTLINE.
