Narrative:

While working the ard/penns position at N90 ewr sector; I noticed the conflict alert go off. I saw one of my aircraft in close proximity to another aircraft. I gave a traffic call to the B737 I was working with an immediate descent to 5000 ft. The conflict alert/data blocks showed both aircraft at 6000 ft. The controller working the G-4 also gave a control instruction to climb. After the instruction; the G-4 pilot said he had the traffic in sight. The controller then said 'maintain visual separation.' separation had been lost in the process. The G-4 was in my airspace without a pointout; I had no knowledge that he was there.
