Narrative:

On this day I found l-hand hydraulic vent line torn and reported it to my lead. Upon talking about how to repair the damage; I suggested a metal speed tape repair until the replacement part (which was not in stock in ZZZ at the time) could be installed. My lead went to the office to conduct research and get approval for the repair. Later that night; my lead called me on the radio and said that maintenance control approved the repair and I could go ahead and apply the tape and complete the log paperwork. Maintenance control was on duty that night. I'm entering this report to explain that I followed procedure and conducted my job as I was instructed. There was no intent on my part to take shortcuts or not follow proper repair procedure. The part has now been replaced and aircraft left without incident.
