Narrative:

Air carrier X was issued a 350 degree heading to provide lateral separation with air carrier Y; and for spacing with other cvg inbounds in the high altitude stratum. Based on his rate of descent; air carrier Y was issued FL200 with sufficient time to provide positive vertical separation with air carrier X. Upon noticing the rate of descent of air carrier Y to be less than anticipated; I told him to expedite to FL200 and report leaving FL220. This was done to ensure vertical separation. Should have issued greater vectors; or descended air carrier X instead of air carrier Y. Bad judgement call.

Title: ZID CTLR EXPERIENCED OPERROR AT FL230 BY MISJUDGING THE DSCNT RATE OF ONE OF THE ACFT INVOLVED.

Narrative: ACR X WAS ISSUED A 350 DEG HDG TO PROVIDE LATERAL SEPARATION WITH ACR Y; AND FOR SPACING WITH OTHER CVG INBOUNDS IN THE HIGH ALT STRATUM. BASED ON HIS RATE OF DSCNT; ACR Y WAS ISSUED FL200 WITH SUFFICIENT TIME TO PROVIDE POSITIVE VERT SEPARATION WITH ACR X. UPON NOTICING THE RATE OF DSCNT OF ACR Y TO BE LESS THAN ANTICIPATED; I TOLD HIM TO EXPEDITE TO FL200 AND RPT LEAVING FL220. THIS WAS DONE TO ENSURE VERT SEPARATION. SHOULD HAVE ISSUED GREATER VECTORS; OR DSNDED ACR X INSTEAD OF ACR Y. BAD JUDGEMENT CALL.
