Narrative:

I took over the position from another controller and immediately had to take action to avoid a conflict. I turned the trail aircraft; called traffic; and then turned back to follow. The aircraft turned very wide conflicting with another aircraft descending via another arrival. I attempted to correct with a turn and altitude but it was too late. What should I have done? Not taken the position until the original potential conflict was resolved. I perhaps should have not made so great of an initial turn and used altitude quicker on the third aircraft.
