Narrative:
Approaching midfield; left downwind for runway 25L; long beach tower controller was asked by me; the pilot of C185; if I could do a short approach to the runway. Tower controller said '(unintelligible) airbus on short final runway 30.' I mistook his unintelligible comment to be either 'note' or 'airbus' or something sounding as though his intent was for me to notice the aircraft below me landing on an intersecting runway. I replied; 'roger; in sight' and continued my shorter than typical approach. At all times; I saw the airbus below us and I watched them land and roll past our crossing runway. The airbus was exiting the far end of the intersecting runway; I was on short final at 200 ft AGL and noticed another aircraft; a king air; crossing my runway. The controller's supervisor came on the radio and instructed me to 'go around; you were never cleared for the short approach.'
