Narrative:
Holding short of runway 10C at taxiway west; we were given takeoff clearance. Instead of turning onto runway; I taxied across runway 10C. No other conflicting traffic. Did not enter any other active runways. I failed to interpret 10-9 page correctly as well as surface markings. The 10-9 chart has the runway number over the taxiway that leads onto the runway obscuring the fact that it is actually a taxiway. The lead line to runway 10C is not what I am use to and there are no yellow chevrons painted on the concrete to indicate that a displaced start to the runway exists. The hold short signage says runway 10C approach which made me think it was a localizer hold short and falsely gave me the impression that we had further to go to get to the active. Although I accept full responsibility for this mistake; I believe that the surface markings and signage could be improved to help avoid the same mistake. Tower called to tell us I had not made the turn onto the active runway. Improve airport markings and signage for runway 10C.

Title: AN EMB135 PLT RPTS FAILING TO TURN ONTO PIT RWY 10C AT TXWY W WHEN CLRED FOR TKOF BECAUSE RWY 10C'S END MARKINGS AT THE W INTXN ARE NOT CLR.
Narrative: HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 10C AT TXWY W; WE WERE GIVEN TKOF CLRNC. INSTEAD OF TURNING ONTO RWY; I TAXIED ACROSS RWY 10C. NO OTHER CONFLICTING TFC. DID NOT ENTER ANY OTHER ACTIVE RWYS. I FAILED TO INTERPRET 10-9 PAGE CORRECTLY AS WELL AS SURFACE MARKINGS. THE 10-9 CHART HAS THE RWY NUMBER OVER THE TXWY THAT LEADS ONTO THE RWY OBSCURING THE FACT THAT IT IS ACTUALLY A TXWY. THE LEAD LINE TO RWY 10C IS NOT WHAT I AM USE TO AND THERE ARE NO YELLOW CHEVRONS PAINTED ON THE CONCRETE TO INDICATE THAT A DISPLACED START TO THE RWY EXISTS. THE HOLD SHORT SIGNAGE SAYS RWY 10C APCH WHICH MADE ME THINK IT WAS A LOC HOLD SHORT AND FALSELY GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT WE HAD FURTHER TO GO TO GET TO THE ACTIVE. ALTHOUGH I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MISTAKE; I BELIEVE THAT THE SURFACE MARKINGS AND SIGNAGE COULD BE IMPROVED TO HELP AVOID THE SAME MISTAKE. TOWER CALLED TO TELL US I HAD NOT MADE THE TURN ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY. IMPROVE AIRPORT MARKINGS AND SIGNAGE FOR RWY 10C.
