Narrative:
While on the seavu arrival planning runway 25L; approach advised us to expect runway 25R. The first officer; PNF; entered the runway change in the FMC. However; the FMC dropped the seavu arrival out of the box. It took us about 1 minute to reinstall the arrival properly. While I flew in heading select we drifted slightly west of seavu intersection because it was not yet depicted on the map navigation display. As the seavu arrival was re-installed it was then apparent that we had drifted slightly west of the intersection. ATC advised that we were off course and cleared us direct to musik intersection. We advised ATC that the arrival had dropped out of the box and were now proceeding direct to musik. ATC said there was no problem or traffic conflicts. Obviously; there was not time in this environment to tune radios in time to identify seavu intersection.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 ON ARR TO LAX DEVIATED FROM COURSE WHEN THEIR RWY ASSIGNMENT WAS CHANGED; REQUIRING A REPROGRAMMING OF THE FMC.
Narrative: WHILE ON THE SEAVU ARRIVAL PLANNING RWY 25L; APPROACH ADVISED US TO EXPECT RWY 25R. THE FO; PNF; ENTERED THE RUNWAY CHANGE IN THE FMC. HOWEVER; THE FMC DROPPED THE SEAVU ARRIVAL OUT OF THE BOX. IT TOOK US ABOUT 1 MINUTE TO REINSTALL THE ARRIVAL PROPERLY. WHILE I FLEW IN HEADING SELECT WE DRIFTED SLIGHTLY WEST OF SEAVU INTERSECTION BECAUSE IT WAS NOT YET DEPICTED ON THE MAP NAV DISPLAY.
