Narrative:
Upon departure from teb on the teb 5 departure; I made my turn to 280 degrees after reaching 1500 ft. I made the turn prior to passing the 4.5 DME requirement of the departure. I should have studied the flight charts and departure instructions in more detail.

Narrative: UPON DEP FROM TEB ON THE TEB 5 DEP; I MADE MY TURN TO 280 DEGS AFTER REACHING 1500 FT. I MADE THE TURN PRIOR TO PASSING THE 4.5 DME REQUIREMENT OF THE DEP. I SHOULD HAVE STUDIED THE FLT CHARTS AND DEP INSTRUCTIONS IN MORE DETAIL.
