Narrative:

We departed teb on runway 24 on the teb 5 departure. I had briefed this departure on the ground with the PNF. I hand flew the aircraft on takeoff; and at 1500 ft I turned to a 280 degree heading. I did not sufficiently level to correct for an updraft; resulting in us temporarily ballooning to 1750 ft before I returned the aircraft to 1500 ft. On our subsequent first radio contact with departure we were cleared to 6000 ft. Lesson 1) fly on the autoplt on busy departures with critical altitudes. It would have kept me on altitude better. 2) brief the PNF to call out as soon as I depart from a cleared altitude so I can take more aggressive action.

Title: A C550 DEPARTING TEB ON THE TEB DEP CLB BEFORE CHARTED POINT TO 1750 FT BEFORE DESCENDING BACK TO 1500 FT.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED TEB ON RWY 24 ON THE TEB 5 DEP. I HAD BRIEFED THIS DEP ON THE GND WITH THE PNF. I HAND FLEW THE ACFT ON TAKEOFF; AND AT 1500 FT I TURNED TO A 280 DEG HEADING. I DID NOT SUFFICIENTLY LEVEL TO CORRECT FOR AN UPDRAFT; RESULTING IN US TEMPORARILY BALLOONING TO 1750 FT BEFORE I RETURNED THE ACFT TO 1500 FT. ON OUR SUBSEQUENT FIRST RADIO CONTACT WITH DEP WE WERE CLRED TO 6000 FT. LESSON 1) FLY ON THE AUTOPLT ON BUSY DEPS WITH CRITICAL ALTS. IT WOULD HAVE KEPT ME ON ALT BETTER. 2) BRIEF THE PNF TO CALL OUT AS SOON AS I DEPART FROM A CLRED ALT SO I CAN TAKE MORE AGGRESSIVE ACTION.
