Narrative:
Nashville approach advised that we had traffic at 12:30 O'clock position; indicating 4400 ft. We were at 4500 ft heading north and scanning for the traffic. We observed the other aircraft coming in from about the 1:30 O'clock position or 2 O'clock position and slightly below us. As aircraft commander; I initiated an immediate climb and the other aircraft passed about 100 ft below us. Although the other aircraft was a low wing aircraft (possibly a piper cherokee or mooney) and we were in a high wing aircraft (cessna 182); the other aircraft gave no indication that he had seen us.
