Narrative:
Assigned to fly as captain on ferry flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1. At ZZZ1 we were to pick up passenger and fly to ZZZ2. At ZZZ2 we were to pick up more passenger and fly back to ZZZ. Total assigned duty day was 18:05 with 4 pilots and 8 flight attendants. For the length of the duty day; 9 flight attendants were required. The company shortened the flight attendant's report time by 30 mins to allow them to go with the 8 flight attendants but failed to notify them of this fact until they reported for work at the earlier time. This made them illegal for the trip. I tried protesting this but crew scheduling told me that I had to fly the trip anyway. I believe that because I was the captain I am responsible for the legality of my entire crew. I protested forcefully with scheduling but they would not even let me escalate the argument to the chief pilot or other duty officer in charge. I reported the incident to both the cp and do in writing upon my return but that doesn't change the fact that the mission was flown short 1 flight attendant.
