Narrative:

On departure at 2000 ft cabin crew called that there was smoke in the cabin and the smoke alarms in the mid cabin lavatories were sounding. We immediately requested a return to the airport and were cleared left downwind for runway 28R at 4000 ft. On final; the smoke had cleared in the cabin; however; the lavatory smoke alarms were still going off. Approach and landing were normal and emergency equipment was standing by. No further assistance was needed and because no smoke was present I taxied to the gate. The landing was overweight at approximately 332000 pounds.
