Narrative:
First officer was PF. Approach gave us the ILS runway 27 GS inoperative. I set up for canpa and he said that he didn't know how to do it. Short discussion concluded that he was not trained in initial training. Luckily; I spotted the airport; pointed it out to the first officer and we were cleared for the visual. I just find it odd that the first officer was about 2 months out of training and had not received canpa training while there. Now that the fsm revision is out; how am I supposed to conduct a canpa approach with a first officer that is not trained? I am not a check airman; so we cannot comply with the fsm. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: it was determined that in fact the training for this new procedure is being done in the initial training of crews and at recurrent training for currently qualified crews. A survey is underway to determine which crewmembers have not received the training.

Title: ACR CAPT CONCERNED THAT HIS FO HAD NOT BEEN TRAINED BY THE COMPANY TO FLY A CANPA (CONSTANT ANGLE NON PRECISION APCH).
Narrative: FO WAS PF. APCH GAVE US THE ILS RWY 27 GS INOP. I SET UP FOR CANPA AND HE SAID THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. SHORT DISCUSSION CONCLUDED THAT HE WAS NOT TRAINED IN INITIAL TRAINING. LUCKILY; I SPOTTED THE ARPT; POINTED IT OUT TO THE FO AND WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL. I JUST FIND IT ODD THAT THE FO WAS ABOUT 2 MONTHS OUT OF TRAINING AND HAD NOT RECEIVED CANPA TRAINING WHILE THERE. NOW THAT THE FSM REVISION IS OUT; HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CONDUCT A CANPA APCH WITH A FO THAT IS NOT TRAINED? I AM NOT A CHK AIRMAN; SO WE CANNOT COMPLY WITH THE FSM. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IN FACT THE TRAINING FOR THIS NEW PROC IS BEING DONE IN THE INITIAL TRAINING OF CREWS AND AT RECURRENT TRAINING FOR CURRENTLY QUALIFIED CREWS. A SURVEY IS UNDERWAY TO DETERMINE WHICH CREWMEMBERS HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE TRAINING.
