Narrative:
Our right pack was deferred prior to departure. During initial climb; the left pack shut off with only a left pack off status message. The left pack was reset and functioned normally until we leveled at FL250. Then; the left pack shut down due to a left pack high temperature. I declared an emergency and we descended to 10000 ft. The left pack was reset and functioned normally. I canceled our emergency status and spoke with the flight attendant to explain what had happened and to make sure that she and the passenger were ok. Then; I consulted with operations and it was agreed that we had sufficient fuel and could safely continue to ZZZ at 10000 ft. The event was recorded in the aml as a discrepancy and subsequently signed off by maintenance as an anomaly. After departing in a different aircraft; we overheard the crew who took over that airplane calling operations to report another left pack shutdown as they were climbing through 14000 ft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CRJ-200 WAS DISPATCHED WITH ONE PACK INOP. DURING CLIMBOUT; THE OTHER PACK MALFUNCTIONED; AND WHEN LEVEL AT CRUISE ALT; IT FAILED. FLT CREW DECLARED AN EMER; DESCENDED TO 10000 FT WHERE THE PACK WAS RE-SET; AND CONTINUED TO DEST.
Narrative: OUR R PACK WAS DEFERRED PRIOR TO DEP. DURING INITIAL CLB; THE L PACK SHUT OFF WITH ONLY A L PACK OFF STATUS MESSAGE. THE L PACK WAS RESET AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY UNTIL WE LEVELED AT FL250. THEN; THE L PACK SHUT DOWN DUE TO A L PACK HIGH TEMP. I DECLARED AN EMER AND WE DSNDED TO 10000 FT. THE L PACK WAS RESET AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I CANCELED OUR EMER STATUS AND SPOKE WITH THE FLT ATTENDANT TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE AND THE PAX WERE OK. THEN; I CONSULTED WITH OPS AND IT WAS AGREED THAT WE HAD SUFFICIENT FUEL AND COULD SAFELY CONTINUE TO ZZZ AT 10000 FT. THE EVENT WAS RECORDED IN THE AML AS A DISCREPANCY AND SUBSEQUENTLY SIGNED OFF BY MAINT AS AN ANOMALY. AFTER DEPARTING IN A DIFFERENT ACFT; WE OVERHEARD THE CREW WHO TOOK OVER THAT AIRPLANE CALLING OPS TO RPT ANOTHER L PACK SHUTDOWN AS THEY WERE CLBING THROUGH 14000 FT.
