Narrative:
Brought to my attention that I had signed off the aileron cable installation on aircraft XXX. I don't remember the exact date but I remember inspecting the cable routing after installation per work card XXX; beginning at step 'M' through the end of the card. The cable routing was inspected before tension and after the cable were tensioned during operations check. The routing appeared to be correct at the time. Evidence dictates that I did not see the cable routed over the guide pin rather than under it. The area where the guide is located is rather difficult to inspect as it is located on the side of the quadrant next to aircraft structure. On a personal note; to be more (diligent) during inspection of system and components. There were no abnormal contributing factors.

Title: A B737-500 NEW AILERON BUS CABLE BROKE SHORTLY AFTER BEING INSTALLED. CABLE HAD BEEN MIS-ROUTED AROUND A PULLEY GUIDE.
Narrative: BROUGHT TO MY ATTN THAT I HAD SIGNED OFF THE AILERON CABLE INSTALLATION ON ACFT XXX. I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE BUT I REMEMBER INSPECTING THE CABLE ROUTING AFTER INSTALLATION PER WORK CARD XXX; BEGINNING AT STEP 'M' THROUGH THE END OF THE CARD. THE CABLE ROUTING WAS INSPECTED BEFORE TENSION AND AFTER THE CABLE WERE TENSIONED DURING OPS CHK. THE ROUTING APPEARED TO BE CORRECT AT THE TIME. EVIDENCE DICTATES THAT I DID NOT SEE THE CABLE ROUTED OVER THE GUIDE PIN RATHER THAN UNDER IT. THE AREA WHERE THE GUIDE IS LOCATED IS RATHER DIFFICULT TO INSPECT AS IT IS LOCATED ON THE SIDE OF THE QUADRANT NEXT TO ACFT STRUCTURE.
