Narrative:

I was working a flight to lax. My pickup time was XA40 los angeles time. I arrived into los angeles at XI18. I was not available for an assignment till XU48. With this knowledge; I was not legal for any assignment that evening; so I took a brief 2 hour nap since I was #1 for a 1 day assignment. There were at least 10 1-DAY trips I was available for. At XR23 I received a call from scheduling. I returned the call at XR50. The crew desk advised me that I was deadheading on another airline and my report time was XW10. He then asked if I could do this assignment and I said 'no I've basically been up from XA00 los angeles time.' he then asked if I was going to call in sick because they had to buy the tickets. I said no; and he said 'well maybe you'll get some rest on the flight.' I received a middle seat exit row that did not recline. I was able to get a minimal amount of rest on the 3 hour flight. Upon arriving in ZZZ; I have now basically been up for 25 hours. Working the flight assigned to me; I was exhausted. I felt that I was swaying and my eyes burned. I have now developed a headache. I was in fear for mine and my crew's safety. I knew with 100% certainty I was not able to do my job properly. If any emergency situation happened I was not physically or mentally able to handle the situation. There was no way I could have prepared for an assignment like this with such minimal notice. Upon arrival; I have now been up for over 31 hours. I was beyond fatigued.
