Narrative:

IFR en route and in a holding pattern. While holding I saw a large hole. I immediately canceled with center; received acknowledgement and descended below the cloud deck via the large hole. I was in VMC and while maneuvering to the airport I cut across the localizer. An airliner was tracking and I passed close enough to activate his RA. They had a visual on me and continued the approach uninterrupted. The area in question has no radar and they have an understandably very limited ability to identify and stage inbound traffic. Had I done this again I would be far more aware of my position. Maintaining VFR occupied more of my attention than merited.
