Narrative:
Got our cabin write-ups late and with no codes; so relief first officer had a lot to do during the descent. A normal SID and vector to runway 27L ILS was being accomplished. I had the first officer seat the passengers as we passed through 15000 ft and I heard the relief first officer make a couple of public announcements and (wrongly) assumed that he had made the 'prepare for landing' announcement. We got 'stuffed' on the approach a bit and flew an expedited path to the runway but made a normal approach and landing. Just after touchdown; the first officer made the comment that he had forgotten to make the flight attendant announcement. I asked him to call the purser and verify that everyone was unharmed and express our apologies. No flight attendants s were injured fortunately; since some were still up (I was told) during touchdown.
