Narrative:
First officer flying, climb out of den to north, turned left to 220 degrees to join J-60, 246 degree right. As we passed through 13500', we were just about to intercept J-60 when ATC called out traffic, '1 O'clock, 8 mi, descending through 14500' VFR.' after 2-3 seconds, the second officer saw him dead ahead. The first officer had already started a normal turn onto the arwy, so when he saw the small transport a few mi ahead he pulled back harder on the yoke to make sure he had sufficient clearance. We passed directly over the small transport whose course was directly opposite to ours. Probably sep, 500-1000'. Called ATC and told them we had to pull up to get a comfortable clearance. An aircraft behind us volunteered that he had to make a course correction for an small transport as well. The controller further stated that they had been trying for a long time to get these small transport's from making VFR dscnts on this route.

Title: MLG-ACR CAME IN CLOSE PROX TO DESCENDING SMT PROCEEDING INBOUND TO DEN ON COMMONLY USED DEP ROUTE.
Narrative: F/O FLYING, CLBOUT OF DEN TO N, TURNED LEFT TO 220 DEGS TO JOIN J-60, 246 DEG R. AS WE PASSED THROUGH 13500', WE WERE JUST ABOUT TO INTERCEPT J-60 WHEN ATC CALLED OUT TFC, '1 O'CLOCK, 8 MI, DSNDING THROUGH 14500' VFR.' AFTER 2-3 SECS, THE S/O SAW HIM DEAD AHEAD. THE F/O HAD ALREADY STARTED A NORMAL TURN ONTO THE ARWY, SO WHEN HE SAW THE SMT A FEW MI AHEAD HE PULLED BACK HARDER ON THE YOKE TO MAKE SURE HE HAD SUFFICIENT CLRNC. WE PASSED DIRECTLY OVER THE SMT WHOSE COURSE WAS DIRECTLY OPPOSITE TO OURS. PROBABLY SEP, 500-1000'. CALLED ATC AND TOLD THEM WE HAD TO PULL UP TO GET A COMFORTABLE CLRNC. AN ACFT BEHIND US VOLUNTEERED THAT HE HAD TO MAKE A COURSE CORRECTION FOR AN SMT AS WELL. THE CTLR FURTHER STATED THAT THEY HAD BEEN TRYING FOR A LONG TIME TO GET THESE SMT'S FROM MAKING VFR DSCNTS ON THIS ROUTE.
