Narrative:

After clearing runway 28R and crossing runway 28L on taxiway Q; ground informed us our gate was occupied. He instructed us to taxi forward onto B; then asked if we could turn right onto taxiway B1. Taxiway B1 is marked on the taxi chart page; yet when looking out the window; there are no signs or even painted markings as to what taxiway you are intersecting with. Ground instructed me to make the right onto taxiway B1 and taxi forward onto taxiway south. On the way back towards the terminal on taxiway Z; there is a painted instructional box with taxiway B1 and an arrow pointing to the right (45 degrees) yet no other signs as to taxiway B1. There needs to additional signage and painted markings to make things safer.
