Narrative:

Widebody transport takeoff for flight to nrt. Left from 14R also a commuter flight lifted from runway 22. Our clearance was turn to 090 degree and climb to 5000'. After liftoff I saw the converging aircraft. To continue our takeoff profile would have resulted in a midair. I elected to turn early and go behind the conflicting aircraft. It is my opinion that the tower blew it. As usual they were very busy and in a hurry. We just needed a little more space. The widebody transport at maximum gross just doesn't maneuver that well especially near ground level. The gear was up but the flaps were still at 20 degree during this time.
