Narrative:

First officer checked and entered the performance data using the final weight and balance printout for runway 28. We actually took off from runway 28; intersection charlie which is coded as RW28X in the 'airport notes' section of the flight release. The final weight and balance didn't offer the intersection takeoff; only full length. First officer didn't catch it. Captain didn't request that the data be physically passed over for a full inspection or the error might have been noticed. The physical presentation from the cockpit facing south and looking at all the aircraft taking off from this point is that intersection charlie is the end of the runway. Even though we always takeoff from this intersection; the performance computer did not list RW28X as an option. This runway is extremely deceptive. The taxi out leaves the very strong impression that the aircraft is physically at the end of the runway; when in fact 500 ft more lies to the east by crossing the runway and taxiing back on a semicircular taxiway for full-length departure runway 28. Tower never used any phrases to indicate taxi to or takeoff from runway 28; intersection charlie. Example - taxi via bravo to runway 28. Example - cleared for takeoff runway 28. After the 'cruise' discussion prompted a review of the takeoff data for some reason and this was discovered; it seems that the 757 guys may have had a read file item about this several years ago. The takeoff point for any aircraft I've ever seem depart bwi from runway 28 has always been from runway 28 intersection charlie; but it's always referred to simply as runway 28. Bwi should treat this spot like newark treats runway 22L; intersection whiskey for takeoffs. Put it in the ATIS that way. Talk about it that way - taxi via taxiway bravo to runway 28; intersection charlie. Dispatch should always list the intersection data in the takeoff performance section of the flight release. Till then this is just another rolling 'gotcha' for bwi takeoffs.

Title: An A319 flight crew took off from BWI Runway 28 intersection Charlie using weights for full length. The reporter noted that the intersection takeoff is normal procedure at BWI; the intersection does not appear in their performance computer; and it would help if ATC and ATIS emphasized the fact that the intersection takeoff was in use.
