Narrative:
Upon entering the terminal area; I was assigned a STAR; given a heading and instructed to descend to 6000 ft. During the descent; I pulled up the STAR on my tablet computer; but the size and orientation of the procedure on the tablet made it very difficult to read; so I decided to pull out the hard copy; which was in my flight bag in the back seat; during which time I drifted 400 ft below 6000 ft for about 30 seconds. The altitude hold feature on my autopilot was inoperative.
