Narrative:
A controller in abq center advised that other aircraft were experiencing poor rides at FL370. We requested, were cleared and descended to FL330. The ride had been smooth until, in the vicinity of cim VOR we experienced an area of severe turbulence. The duration was approximately 30 seconds. We advised abq center of the turbulence, asked for a descent, and were immediately clrd to FL290. We told abq than we didn't think it was advisable to let any other carriers come through the area at that altitude. Aircraft systems were checked and found to be normal. We were advised by the cabin crew that we had a F/a hurt when she came in contact with a food service cart. Also, one passenger burned by hot coffee. After discussing the injuries with the F/a, the passenger, and a medical person onboard, I decided to continue to ord. The rest of cruise, descent and landing was normal. Landed at XD20Z. The aircraft was inspected by maintenance, the interior cleaned by cabin service, and the trip continued.

Title: ACR WDB ENCOUNTERED CLEAR AIR TURBULENCE RESULTING IN PASSENGER AND FA INJURIES. EMERGENCY DESCENT.
Narrative: A CTLR IN ABQ CENTER ADVISED THAT OTHER ACFT WERE EXPERIENCING POOR RIDES AT FL370. WE REQUESTED, WERE CLRED AND DSNDED TO FL330. THE RIDE HAD BEEN SMOOTH UNTIL, IN THE VICINITY OF CIM VOR WE EXPERIENCED AN AREA OF SEVERE TURB. THE DURATION WAS APPROX 30 SECS. WE ADVISED ABQ CENTER OF THE TURB, ASKED FOR A DSCNT, AND WERE IMMEDIATELY CLRD TO FL290. WE TOLD ABQ THAN WE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ADVISABLE TO LET ANY OTHER CARRIERS COME THROUGH THE AREA AT THAT ALT. ACFT SYSTEMS WERE CHKED AND FOUND TO BE NORMAL. WE WERE ADVISED BY THE CABIN CREW THAT WE HAD A F/A HURT WHEN SHE CAME IN CONTACT WITH A FOOD SVC CART. ALSO, ONE PAX BURNED BY HOT COFFEE. AFTER DISCUSSING THE INJURIES WITH THE F/A, THE PAX, AND A MEDICAL PERSON ONBOARD, I DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO ORD. THE REST OF CRUISE, DSCNT AND LNDG WAS NORMAL. LANDED AT XD20Z. THE ACFT WAS INSPECTED BY MAINT, THE INTERIOR CLEANED BY CABIN SVC, AND THE TRIP CONTINUED.
