Narrative:

Taxiing in for our gate; gate occupied. Ramp control told us to go to between spot 4 and 5 and wait for another gate to open up. Taxiing to that area two absolutely blinding lights used for some type of ramp purpose just south of spots 4 and 5 were pointing directly at us. When I say blinding; blinding is an understatement. Why in the world is this allowed to happen as it greatly affects the safety of the movement of aircraft on the ramp. This should absolutely be prohibited by the FAA/airport authority. Suggestions 1. Use different lights. 2. Use 'shades' on existing lights to deflect the illumination 3. Use lower powered lights.
