Narrative:

Our chief pilot called and asked if I had knowledge of an O2 bottle being carried aboard my flight a week prior to the call. I said no; but then called one the the flight attendants to ask. He said he had no knowledge; however; the other flight attendant remembers seeing an O2 bottle in possession of one the passengers. I passed this on to the chief pilot. Apparently security and the gate agents allowed hazardous material to be carried through security and aboard my flight. When the flight attendant noticed the item; she failed to act. She did not notify me; the PIC. The passenger was careless and did not check with the correct people.
