Narrative:
Approximately ten to fifteen miles from condo we were at 3000 ft. ATC gave us clearance to 2000 ft. I noticed traffic ahead of us and 1000 ft below us opposite direction. At 2700 ft; ATC issued instructions to stop descent at 2500 ft; we complied for traffic at 2000 ft. We did not have a visual then the TCAS started to show the traffic in a climb about two miles or so from us. When he was 300 ft below us and climbing I disconnected the autopilot and initiated a climb as an RA was activated. We climbed to 3100 ft then the TCAS said clear. Controllers changed from female voice to male who gave us clearance back down to 2000 ft. No one said anything about the traffic.
