Narrative:
I had departed bqr airport from the ramp area with my helicopter. I made a departure call on the radio and departed to the west. At 1200 ft MSL; I looked to the south for other aircraft; when I saw none; I made a turn to the south to avoid going into buffalo (class C) airspace. At that time; I saw an aircraft to my left and I turned back to the west and continued on the flight until I could resume the turn to the south. The other aircraft was a small low-wing which I could not see because it was leaving runway 26 at bqr and was behind me at a much faster speed than I was. A possible solution for this would be to make the airspace to the west larger so a turn to the south could be extended out further.
